'I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter (1869.4) (N=269A) conveying authority of His Excellency the Governor for leave of absence, for four months to Assistant Superintendent Caldwell, and directing that during his absence M. Granther be appointed joint
Assessor and Collector of Police Rates -
upon
the
necessary security being given, also directing me to report upon
the most
efficient person in the Police to perform the duties of Assistant Superintendent.
